Some distillers and exhibitors may have a very special bottle, perhaps one of a kind, that they can sell you a token for to try a dram. Other than those special 'black tokens' your tasting samples are included in the ticket price, along with a plentiful supply of water for tasting purposes and cleansing your tasting glass. We provide both Glencairn and traditional Whisky glasses for use during the festival and to be left at the festival. Some distillers have special glasses with logos they can sell you if you wish to buy a souvenir.
Talks and Music
We are renowned for the quality and variety of our whisky and distillery related talks, which have received high praise from our audiences. Subjects range across touring distilleries, wildlife around distilleries the distillers art and much more besides. We again plan to have the Whisky Girl (Femke) from the Netherlands giving talks. Along with Editors of various Scotch and Whisky related magazines and music in the Sullivan Suite.
Beyond the Whisky
The estate has a significant place in history as the final home of Sir William and Lady Gilbert (Gilbert & Sullivan) and with its award winning 40 acre gardens and woods. Providing the paths are dry enough they make for pleasant walking on crisp winter days. The substantial number of evergreens in the gardens mean there is colour throughout the year. You can borrow maps from Reception taking you to historical locations in the gardens. Alternatively to the shooting locations for Films and TV episodes such as Dr Who, The Avengers, Little Britain, The Saint, Randall & Hopkirk, Eastenders, Endless Night (Agatha Christie) Hammer films, Futtocks End (Ronnie Barker) and many more.
Festival Rooms and Food
The festival tastings will be in the Drawing Room and the Music Room (First floor – no lift). Food will be on sale during part of the tasting sessions. Cream Teas and Gilbert's Restaurant should be pre-booked.
T's and C's – Challenge 25
Bookings are taken in accordance with the Terms & Conditions on the main hotel website www.grimsdyke.com and a strict challenge 25 policy will apply. If you are asked and fail to produce acceptable photo indentification, to confirm you are aged at least 18, you will be refused entry. Tickets can only be purchased by adults and only for adults. The management reserve the right to remove anyone behaving inappropriately and/or causing upset to other festival goers.
Last pour and water
Last pour is called 20 minutes before the session end. Please ensure you drink plenty of water, drink responsibly and have some food also.
We will again have plenty of tasting samples covering each one of the six Scottish Whisky regions, together with Ireland and Overseas. With a 50% increase in exhibitors you can tell our Whisky Scouts have been busy visiting and lining up something special. In 2015 they went as far as Orkney and Islay and are scheduled to visit Campbeltown again. They have also been searching out some newer and interesting distilleries south of the border.
The Whisky Exchange
To allow you to purchase bottles of your favourites we have invited The Whisky Exchange to the festival; they will focus particularly on the whisky and spirits being tasted at the festival. The Whisky Exchange is a renowned on-line retailer founded in 1999. The online range covers some 4,000 whiskies with around three quarters Single Malt Scotch and some 200 Bourbons. The balance of the range from countries including Ireland, Wales, Japan, India, South Africa, Sweden and Australia. Beyond whisky there are some 400 Rums, 350 Vodkas, 500 Cognacs/Armagnacs, 300 Gins, 150 Tequilas and approaching 1,000 specialist liqueurs available on-line.
